An MP is encouraging businesses in Loughborough to take part in a programme to improve UK manufacturing.

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan has called on businesses to take part in the Manufacturing Excellence support programme organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to develop and celebrate businesses in the sector.

She said: "This programme could help businesses realise their full potential and provide an opportunity to celebrate local manufacturing successes."

Institution of Mechanical Engineers chief executive Stephen Tetlow said: "In Loughborough, manufacturing remains at the heart of the economic recovery.

"Past winners have shown that by taking part and adopting best practice they can thrive, grow and become global players.

"I urge those local businesses that have not yet applied, to take advantage of the programme. Entry is free and there is up to £20,000 free consultancy advice up for grabs as well as the chance to win at the prestigious MX Awards."

Companies that complete at least one module of the programme by June 10 can also put themselves forward for the MX – manufacturing excellence – Awards 2011, which will take place on November 23.

Entry to Manufacturing Excellence is free. For information, visit:
