An MP has given his support to a campaign calling on more women to get screened for cervical cancer.

Andrew Bridgen, MP for North West Leicestershire, met with representatives of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust to hear about their work.

Afterwards, he urged local health chiefs to look at the charity's proposals to get more women to take up screening.

Mr Bridgen said: "The work the trust carries out is extremely important, and I would like to bring it to the attention of the NHS in North West Leicestershire."

The trust provides support and information to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities, and is looking for ways to improve prevention, especially through immunisation and screening.
