MP's expenses claim rejected
An MP who attended a course on intimate relationships and tried to put the £125 fee on expenses has said there was a "sensible basis" for the claim.
The Commons fees office refused to reimburse Bosworth MP David Tredinnick with taxpayers' money because it did not "fall within the remit" of expenses allowances.

MP David Tredinnick
He attended the four-hour seminar, run by a London-based acquaintance of his, in March 2006.
The session was advertised as teaching how to "honour the female and also the male essence and the importance of celebrating each".
Mr Tredinnick said it had helped him understand the nature of relationships that feature in the cases of his constituents.
Details of the rejected claim were blacked out in the official expenses paperwork published by Parliament on Thursday.
They were only brought to light by The Daily Telegraph – which obtained a leak of the uncensored documents – at the weekend.
Defending his claim for going on a course that offered to teach about the "deep passions of our intimate relationships", the Tory MP said that half of the people in Hinckley and Bosworth who came to him for help had found themselves in difficulty because of relationship issues.
Mr Tredinnick said he believed too much information had been hidden in the official publication of expenses documents.
He said: "What I was trying to do was look at how people get into trouble in domestic situations, what causes domestic violence and what drives some people to that.
"Bearing in mind the amount of casework I do, I thought this would be quite sensible."
However the Tory backbencher admitted the Commons fees office had been correct to refuse his claim.
He said: "It was not legitimate as we cannot claim for attending courses of any sort –- which I did not realise at the time.
"But I think there is a case for us to be able to claim for courses such as this which I believed helped my parliamentary work.
"A lot of what I do involves casework for constituents and if I was a social worker or a human relations manager in a business this course would have been a normal thing for me to do."
Further details of other city and county MP's expenses claims – which had been redacted in the official published documents – emerged over the weekend.
Labour MP for North West Leicestershire David Taylor claimed £11,160 for "professional charges" in February 2006 when he moved just over a mile from a flat in south east London, to one in Westminster.
In July 2006 Tory Charnwood MP Stephen Dorrell put in a £758 claim for staying at a hotel while his flat was being refurbished. The claim was refused.
A full uncensored list of all expenses claims made by every MP since 2001 is set to be published tomorrow.

“Here in Thailand , corruption ,backhanders seems to be par for the course , and happens at every level of society.
How can an MP make a mistake in claiming for a paid up mortgage for THREE YEARS , If I had been claiming unemployment benefit whilst not realising I had a full time job for 3 years , I would spend the next five sitting in a jail cell.
Are these supposed representatives of the people above the law ?? Prosecute them and lock them up, Make an example of them !”

“I cannot agree with "Local Resident" Hinckley that "This is a non story as no taxpayers money was paid out". To me it gives an indication of the sort of thing that has apparently been going on, i.e. ridiculous claims being submitted ! If Mr. Tredinnick aspires to become a 'counsellor' qualified to help and guide people in how to deal with personal domestic problems, instead of carrying out the job he was elected to do as an MP, there are courses he could sign up to in order to become qualified to do that. - But he should be warned such courses can be rather expensive, and you are expected to fund yourself ! I'm missing something here though aren't I, Mr Tredinnick wanted to do this as well as be an MP !”

“Another one coming out the woodwork, but smutty this time, intimate relationships course, best laugh I have had all day. Would you honestly believe that his constituents would go to a local MP to discuss their intimate relationships or discuss sexual problems, I DONT THINK SO Mr Tredinnick.
More like going for yourself, well your not using my money for that kind of course. Am disgusted concerning this.”

“So are we now going to look into every claim made by all the MPs. This is a non story as no taxpayers money was paid out. It will be interesting to see Nick Cleggs expenses when he was an MEP.”

“I am still awaiting information on which MPs are drawing a full MPs salary despite working in other jobs for much of their time.
A part-time disinterested MP is not one I could accept.
Which local MPs are moonlighting with second, third or fourth jobs in addition to their MP's job?”
