Magic of a real circus
How lovely to see a real old-fashioned circus with animals – the Great British Circus – back at Glen Parva for Easter until Wednesday, April 27.
I saw the show Thursday night and along with all the children there, was thrilled to see the four black Friesian horses, the camels and Mr Martin Lacey's five Bengal tigers, who when you see them in the ring with him, are his own "pussy cats", they know him and love him; you can see that.
The wonderful trapeze artist is a Bulgarian international gymnast and has won gold medals at the Olympics. He can defy gravity. All the animals are well cared for and when I went to buy my tickets in the afternoon, I saw the camels and horses roaming freely in a little field at the back and the tigers have access to a large exercise enclosure.
None of the animals have been taken from the wild; his tigers brought up from cubs in his caravan.
I would urge people to leave the TV and the DVD and experience the magic of a real circus before they leave Leicester.
The circus, once seen by a child, is never forgotten.
Karen Reynolds, Leicester.

“I don't know what planet Karen Reynolds is inhabiting but clearly isn't in the 21st century.
Animals were banned from circuses for a very good reason, especially wild ones. One can only imagine the absolute boredom these animals like tigers must suffer in between being forced to perform stupid tricks for stupid people.”

“Watch the video here of the 'Not So Great' British Circus worker beating his elephants.

“How we all forget, it was only 18 months ago when this 'real' circus was exposed with undercover footage of the elephants being beaten with stick and bars.
Just 4 weeks ago another 'real' circus was also exposed doing the same thing.
In this day and age what do people get from going to a circus that uses animals?
There are lots of programes on the TV that show animals in their natural habitat doing what they do naturally, they are far more educational.
It's about time all animal circuses were banned and I for one will not be giving them my money.”

“My child has seen plenty of circuses and loved them all (as have I). Apart from the occasional horse, there hasn't been a single animal in any of them.”

“This is one brave (or stupid) woman!! I can imagine the animals rights people gnashing their teeth and rending their garments at this!! I personally don't mind horses and camels but I really do question the validity of travelling tigers.. just because they are born in captivity doesn't mean their animal instincts are eradicated. Also unlike lions, tigers are solitary creatures and I wonder how much they appreciate the proximity of their fellow creatures..I do appreciate they appear well cared for but who knows the state of their minds...”
