A landmark has been reached in the building of a new campus for a further education college.

South Leicestershire College, in Wigston, is moving to a £43m site in nearby South Wigston.

A traditional topping-out ceremony took place following the completion of the building's structure by Bowmer and Kirkland.

College principal Christine Bullock unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

The builders will now start fitting out the inside.

Mrs Bullock said: "This event marks a significant stage in the construction of our new South Wigston campus and represents the excellent partnership between the Learning and Skills Council, South Leicestershire College, the main contractors Bowmer and Kirkland and project managers Concept.

"The completed building will offer further excellent opportunities for learners while raising the profile of South Wigston.

"This new building does promise to be a whole new experience in further education."
