A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car.

The man suffered fatal injuries in the collision, which happened at about 11.40am today in Troon Way, Leicester, near to its junction with Nicklaus Road.

The pedestrian has not yet been formally identified by police.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being held in police custody.

Troon Way was closed in both directions while a police investigation was carried out.

No-one else is reported to have been injured in the incident, which involved a black Toyota Avensis.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to Troon Way near to it's junction with Nicklaus Road at 11.39am on Friday following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian received fatal injuries.
