Plans to demolish Leicester's indoor market have taken a step forward.

Leicester City Council has appointed UK construction consultants Faithful+Gould to manage the project, which will involve consultation with market traders and the public and is likely to result in the rebuilding of the indoor market.

The consultants will appoint an architect to draw up plans, which will include council-run toilets for the city centre.

Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: "Market traders have been very supportive of the approaches we've been making about the concept of demolishing the market hall and relocating the meat and fish stalls.

"We also want to replace the dreadful public conveniences at the bottom of the building.

"There will be consultation with members of the public and traders so they can have their say in the shaping of something right for the heart of the city."

The mayor proposed knocking down the 1970s building last year. He said it made commercial sense for the city to have a better indoor market.

So here we go...again...the toilets have always been the responsibility of the council. So the condition they are in is down to the council.Tell me I am wrong?
When pete opened slab square, at £600thousand plus,in the cost were new toilets. If anyone can find them ,let us all know where.
If not ,does that mean we paid for something we did not get ?
Come on pete show us the toilets!
