5 mins: City have had the best of the opening spell. Anthony Knockaert cuts inside and unleashes a shot but it hits Jamie Vardy in the penalty area and bounces clear.

7 mins: GOAL (1-0) Danny Drinkwater's shot falls at the feet of David Nugent, who just has to slide it into the bottom corner as the wrong-footed Ben Amos is left stranded.

9 mins: Jamie Vardy is through one-on-one with the keeper and it takes a great save to stop it being 2-0. From the resulting corner, the ball falls to Vardy, who strikes the ball cleanly but it is cleared off the line for another corner. City are in the ascendency.

14 mins: A flurry of corners for City all cause problems for the Hull defence. Shots from Nugent and Ben Marshall are both parried wide.

17 mins: A cross from the right from Vardy almost finds the head of Nugent, who looks a changed man, but it is headed behind for a corner.

25 mins: GOAL (1-1) Completely against the run of play, Jay Simpson scores from Hull's first shot on target. Sone Aluko fires it hard across the goal and Simpson slides in to score from close range.

28 mins: Marshall plays in Nugent down the left-hand side. The striker cuts inside and attempts to curl it in the top corner but it floats wide.

29 mins: City look shaky after the goal. An uncharacteristic mistake from Wes Morgan almost allows Simpson to grab a second but a last-ditch tackle from Sean St Ledger on the edge of the six-yard box clears the danger.

39 mins: Ahmed Elmohamady is in space down the right and fires in a cross but Paul Konchesky is there to head behind.

40 mins: From the resulting corner, Elmohamady gets to the ball first but heads over from close range.

42 mins: GOAL (2-1) A City corner falls to the feet of Nugent, who has his shot cleared off the line, but the ball can only fall to Knockaert who plays the ball back into the box and Nugent is there again to head into the bottom corner.

HALF-TIME: City 2 Hull 1

47mins: Knockaert plays through Vardy one-on-one with the keeper. The striker tries to lift it over Amos, who makes another fantastic one-handed save and tips it over the bar.

50 mins: Knockaert is causing serious problems as the Frenchman gets to the byline and puts a great ball into the box where Morgan heads over.

52 mins: Hull's dangerman Aluko turns and strikes the ball from 20 yards out, forcing a diving one-handed save from Kasper Schmeichel.

61 mins: Knockaert plays the ball to Matty James on the edge of the area but the midfielder's shot is deflected wide.

70 mins: Knockaert is at the heart of the action all the time for City. The ball falls to the Frenchman at the edge of the area and he unleashes a shot which is deflected into the arms of Amos.

70 mins: James is replaced by Andy King in a straight positional swop

73 mins: Vardy makes way for Martyn Waghorn.

80 mins: A handball right on the edge of the area gives City a free-kick. Knockaert curls the ball towards the top corner but it is comfortably saved by Amos.

83 mins: Steve Bruce is very unhappy with the linesman's decision to call the ball out of play. Nigel Pearson has to hold him back and Bruce is sent to the stand by referee Eddie Ilderton.

85 mins: Marshall is replaced by Lloyd Dyer.

88 mins: Konchesky almost repeats his Wolves strike of last weekend as he drills one from 30 yards towards goal. But Amos is there and collects the ball easily.

89 mins: A free-kick from Robert Koren is tipped over by Schmeichel. The corner is headed at goal but Knockaert is there again to clear it off the line.

90 mins: GOAL (3-1) Nugent bags his hat-trick as the goal-line clearance falls to Waghorn in the centre circle. He plays in Dyer, who threads it through to Nugent, who calmly slots home for his third of the day.

FULL-TIME: City 3 Hull 1

“yes, we need to work out how to do that away. Maybe a different formation, or just play like we are at home.”

“In a game we dominated and deserved to win easily it took an 89th minute clearance off the line to ensure we won. Two wingers works at home - just. Do we need that extra defensive midfielder to win away? The next two games will settle that.”
