Match verdict: Leicester City's Cup hopes go for a Burton
Leicester City had a night to forget as League Two side Burton Albion pulled off an incredible cup giant-killing at the King Power Stadium.
The Brewers inflicted City's third defeat in eight days as they ran out 4-2 winners and Pearson's men were booed off the pitch at the final whistle.
Chris Palmer had put Burton ahead against the run of play but Cleveland Taylor added a second and, although Anthony Knockaert pulled one back for City, Robbie Weir restored Burton's two-goal advantage from the penalty spot before Jacques Maghoma added a fourth.
Marko Futacs' late strike was a mere consolation.

City made eight changes from the side that lost at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Only goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who was given the captain's armband, Paul Konchesky and Ritchie De Laet retained their places.
In came Zak Whitbread and Sean St Ledger at the heart of the defence after both recovered from injury, while Neil Danns and Matty James were twinned in central midfield.
Paul Gallagher, Anthony Knockaert, Martyn Waghorn and Jeff Schlupp provided the attacking ammunition.
The Brewers, managed by former Leicester defender Gary Rowett, named former City youngsters Billy Kee and Adi Yussuf among their substitutes.
7 min: City start brightly, dominating possession without creating too much in the way of chances, although Schlupp does try his luck from the edge of the area, but it is a weak shot.
15 min: Great through-ball from St Ledger for Knockaert, but Atkins is out quickly to just beat the Frenchman to the ball. City still on top and looking threatening.
19 min: St Ledger adjudged to have fouled Zola 20 yards out from goal. Burton have a free-kick in a dangerous position.
20 min: GOAL Palmer's free-kick flicks off the bottom of the City wall and finds the bottom corner. Brewers take a shock lead.
22 min: City look to hit back and Gallagher shoots from 25 yards out but it is high and wide. City have been stung by going behind.
25 min: Schlupp fires into the side-netting after some intricate play around the penalty box by City. The Brewers have something to defend now and are making it tough for City to break through.
28 min: Knockaert plays in Schlupp and Honess just gets a foot in and flicks the ball away for a corner, but City appeal for a penalty.
29 min: From Gallagher's corner, Whitbread gets up well and his header is deflected just over the bar for another corner. Knockaert takes this one and whips it to the back post where De Laet has a great chance but he plants his header wide.
30 min: Knockaert again does well to wriggle to the byline and get a cross in, it falls for Schlupp who turns smartly to get his shot away but Atkins saves superbly low to his left. Knockaert looks bright and dangerous, and has switched flanks with Gallagher.
40 min: Gallagher and Knockaert combine for a short corner and Gallagher's shot is deflected, but Atkins saves well.
41 min: Waghorn shoots again from 20 yards out and Atkins, who is having a storming game, touches it just over the bar. City are piling on the pressure just before half-time.
43 min: Maghoma shoots from long range and it fizzes along the wet turf, Schmeichel has to scramble low to his left to touch it around the post for a corner.
45 min: An injury scare for City as St Ledger requires treatment for a knock on his knee but he is able to play on.
Half-time: city 0 burton 1
47 min: Storming run from De Laet who betas several Brewers players to get into the area and his cross is almost deflected over Atkins' head but he is able to claim it.
50 min: Schlupp produces a great turn on the edge of the area and gets to the byline but his pull-back is somehow scrambled away by some desperate defending.
53 min: Knockaert free-kick into the box finds Schlupp unmarked with a free header but he cannot convert.
53 min: GOAL Burton go 2-0 up the other end and Whitbread commits a terrible mistake, completely missing his clearance and Cleveland Taylor volleys home Burton's second goal. Incredible stuff.
60 min: GOAL Knockaert is fouled 25 yards out and picks himself up to curl home a superb left-footed free-kick over the wall and into the far corner to pull it back to 2-1. A tremendous free-kick from City's most effective player.
63 min: More drama as the Brewers are awarded a penalty for what looked to be handball inside the area, although City protest strongly. It came from Palmer's free-kick into the box.
65 min: GOAL Weir takes the penalty and fires it high into the roof of the net past Schmeichel for 3-1.
69 min: GOAL Schmeichel is beaten again. This time it is a curling, dipping effort from Maghoma which deceives him.
77 min: Great chance for Futacs to open his City account as he scuffs his shot from the edge of the area. The frustrations grows inside the King Power Stadium.
81 min: Konchesky curls a left-footed free-kick from 25 yards out wide of the post. City look beaten now and the City fans start to leave the stadium.
87 min: GOAL Futacs scores with a fantastic volley after James had pulled the ball back into the area.
90+4 min: The boos ring out around the King Power Stadium at the final whistle. This has been a dark night for City, but a historic one for Rowett and Burton as they leave with a famous win.

“Couldnt add to that p200 right on the nail.
Ghost are you having a laugh give Pearson more money. No let the new incoming guy spend it wisely even to employ loanees. For Gods sake do you want more Donkeys and raw L plate merchants on the books?”

“How many times do Chappy and I have to call for a Reserve League involvement by LCFC. We now have a competitive U-21 league involvement, so lets go the whole hog and have our Reserves match fit to slot into the team on demand to maximum effect.”

“We wouldn't dream of making such sweeping changes if last night['s game had been an F A Cuptie. There is no way that Nigel Pearson would have made any changes to the XI that started at Blackburn, certainly not eight! If we are really serious about this competition, why do it?
So to what extent is the principle of the squad system to blame, particularly in the league cup. For some reason best known to themselves, managers (and not just Nigel Pearson), seem to think that this particular competition is an opportunity to give an outing to those who spend more time on the bench rather than the field of play.
Years ago, we had a first team, a reserve team and even an 'A' team so players got to play week in, week out.
At Blackburn, we had a team – a brilliant team, a team that was cohesive and operated as one unit. Tonight, we've seen Paul Gallagher, Zak Whitbread, Sean St Ledger, Jeff Schlupp, Martyn Waghorn, Marko Futacs and Neil Danns brought into the team for the first time and good players as they are, they have not jelled as a team.
Saturday's team will bear little relationship to tonight. We do have an excellent squad but Ben Marshall, Danny Drinkwater, Jermaine Beckford, Jamie Vardy and David Nugent will all be back.
We should have started with the team that started at Blackburn, tried to secure the game by half-time and brought subs on after that”

“NP said it best:
"We had a number of players who missed the opportunity to perform on the big stage. It was a very bad night for us.
"I know I made a number of changes but we had players who felt they had not had the number of opportunities they would have liked so far. A number of them had the chance in this match and they have clearly not taken it.
So now we move on. Go with players that are performing and start winning.”
