I'm glad to see that at least one person has the courage to stand up for the killing of animals and is willing to gloss over the "regrettable" suffering that takes place inside of slaughter houses ("I'm sick of being preached at", Mailbox, June 1).

As a supporter of the meat trade, no doubt John Wood is brave enough to instigate a national programme of school tours to abattoirs to show our children just how benign these places really are.
