Melton Borough Council to hold second extraordinary Core Strategy meeting
Another Extraordinary meeting of Melton Borough Council has been called for 6.30pm on Tuesday 11 September 2012, when councillors will be asked to approve changes to the Core Strategy before it is submitted to the Secretary of State and Government planning inspector.
The Core Strategy includes controversial plans for a Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) to the north of Melton Mowbray including 1,000+ homes, two gypsy and traveller sites, and supporting facilities including a new primary school.
You can view the original Core Strategy and SUE proposals on the Melton Borough Council Consultation portal which also includes the hundreds of comments submitted in response. Please note the consultations are now closed. It will be interesting to see what changes have been made, when the revised Core Strategy is brought to September's Extraordinary meeting.
The public are welcome to attend this meeting, and at the previous Extraordinary meeting in February, where the Core Strategy was originally approved, around 300 people packed into the council chamber to witness a truly extraordinary night of local democracy.

A week prior to the council meeting - on Tuesday 4 September - Melton North Action Group (MNAG) is holding a public meeting at 7.00pm at The Conservative Club on Sherrard Street. This will provide an update on their latest news and the timetable of events that will take their campaign through to the public inspection - now expected to take place in early 2013.
A spokesperson for the MNAG said:
- "If you have any concerns to raise regarding the siting of the SUE, or any other aspects of the Core Strategy, please contact your councillors via e mail or letter before the meeting on the 11th September so that they are able to properly represent their ward at the meeting with their vote."
"It is not too late to make your feelings known and help to shape the future of Melton Mowbray."
The agenda and papers should be available shortly via the Full Council 2012/13 page on the Melton Borough Council website - which also includes links to the contact details for all councillors.

“Another District Council struggling to represent existing residents, by developing major sites rather than make all areas/villages of thier District sustainable - surely not?
When will District councils actually start pro-actively involving local residents and building meaningful Local plans (for every village/Parish), that then develop their District Strategy from there
Offer your views and make sure, if you have an opinion, you share it correctly with your Parish & District Council - otherwise they will always do what they think/want - as they will get more money from more houses, as well as more money from the centre
Just look at the trend for major developments around the County - its the new craze/trend with councils
Lazy planning rather than letting each & every village breathe as they need to for a sustainable future, with the local residents involvement”

“C10 do you know this area. I own property there which I let out. This will affect me and this is the first I have heard of the plans. North Melton. Is that Scalford rd. Nottingham rd or Asfordby hill and welby lane areas?”
