Castle Donington: A memorial service for the late Mrs Dawn Battersby, who died in December aged 88, was held at the Parish Church of St. Edward, King and Martyr, on Saturday.

The congregation was welcomed by the vicar, the Rev. Andrew Micklethwaite, who introduced and took the service.

Mrs Battersby was born in Birmingham and came to live with her family in Castle Donington in 1926 and married Jack Battersby in 1956.

During the war, she served in the WRENs, later being active in many areas of Castle Donington society, being in the WRVS and active in the Meals on Wheels service, Castle Donington Civic Society and the Parish Church.

Various members of her family paid tribute to Dawn as a wife, sister, mother and grandmother.
