The teams made the models in the college workshops. It was organised by assistant principal of the college's technical centre, John Redmond.
He said: "The family teams worked hard, both in the preparation workshops and at home finishing designs."
Aided by the college's design and technology department, the families had to research, design and build their entry.
Last Wednesday, the teams, supported by family members and staff from local primary schools and Lutterworth High School, took part in the competition.
Mr Redmond, said: "All families received a laser-cut trophy for participating made by Lutterworth College, with trophies for fastest thumb, grooviest car and fastest car.
"This has been a trial event. It's the first of its kind in the UK and has been very successful."
