De Mont was playing with fire

Forgive me for not being surprised.

Many months ago De Montfort Hall staged the musical Jerry Springer – the Opera. Many voices were raised in protest – people of various religious flavours and some of none.

Several Christians held protests outside the hall and met people leaving who were disgusted at the profanity they had witnessed. The opera was an attack on the JudeoChristian faith, and the God we read of in the Bible.

In the view of some of us, those making a decision to stage the musical were "playing with fire" and we voiced that opinion.

A substantial loss was made on the performances, and for that reason alone was judged to be an error by the management. It should never have been shown.

There is a verse in the Bible which says: "God is not mocked – we reap what we sow".

This enormous financial loss is, in my opinion, a direct result, not only of the mismanagement and ill-judgement of those running De Montfort Hall, but God deciding "enough is enough" and He is giving another warning to those who insist on profaning His Name.

Be very careful! He's much bigger than we are!

Alan Rees, Leicester.

“Funniest letter I've read in ages. Amazing that grown up people can still think like this.”

“Ooooh,it's all a bit Old Testament isn't it? If only justice were dispensed so swiftly, I can think of a few individuals in the news lately who should have combusted spontaneously!!”

    “Surely this is satire?

If Mr Rees were real, then surely he would be institutionalised, and thus not free to patronise DM Hall in the first place.”

“Not as big as Father Christmas or fairies at the bottom of the garden though.”
