The search is on for a mystery witness who claims to have seen a crash in which six young people died.

A woman has posted a message on the internet claiming to have been at the scene of the fatal collision between a car and a lorry on the A607, near Melton, in the early hours of July 10 last year.

She placed her condolences on a tribute website and said she had witnessed the accident.

Police have attempted to contact her via e-mail, but have so far had no response.

Today, the grieving mother of one of the crash victims urged the potential witness to come forward.

Jo Moseley's son, Luke Whittle, 19, and five friends died in the collision as they returned to Leicester from Skegness.

Jo, 41, from Enderby, said: "At the moment, we don't know how the accident was caused.

"I am appealing to this mystery person to come forward and tell the police what they saw so we can find out the circumstances in which my son died.

"I want anybody who has got any information to please come forward.

"There are six families grieving for kids that are never going to come back and, at the minute, every day gets a little harder."

The anonymous post was discovered by Mrs Moseley when she checked her son's memorial page on the Gone Too Soon website.

The message is believed to have been posted in October, but has since been removed.

Mrs Moseley said she wanted to hear what happened so that any lessons could be learned.

"This kind of thing cannot happen again," she said.

Luke's friend, Mark Forster, 23, said: "If this person knows what happened the night Luke died, then they should come forward.

"It's not just Luke's friends and family who want to know how the accident was caused, there are the friends and families of five other young people who don't know how their loved ones died."

Luke's sister, Amy Grewcock, 19, said: "I've lost my one and only brother. Please, if anyone has any information, come forward and get in contact with the police.

"I can't explain enough how much we are all going through, and how hard it is not knowing what happened to Luke on that night."

Before the accident, Luke had been on a trip to Skegness with three friends.

Their car was impounded by police because of problems with insurance.

The group were stranded for two nights in Lincolnshire before two friends drove from Leicester to collect them.

All six died on the way home when the car they were in, a black Ford Mondeo, collided with an articulated lorry near Kirby Bellars, about a mile south of Melton.

They were Richard Bolton, 23, the driver, from Beaumont Leys, Luke Whittle, Christopher James Worrad, 18, of no fixed abode, Emily Rose Curnock, 18, of Enderby, Carly Ann Arrindell, 18, of Glen Parva, and Teela Chamberlain, 19, from Saffron Lane estate, Leicester.

An inquest into the deaths has been opened and adjourned until police have finished their investigations.

A police spokeswoman said: "We urge anyone who saw the incident, or who has information, to contact us immediately."

Anyone with information should call police on 0116 222 2222.

“Yes j, please enlighten us or give your official statement to the police.

Or are you just assuming that young people in a car = their fault.”

“Lets hope the mystery witness sees this appeal and can put herself in the shoes of the relatives and envisage how she would feel if it had been her son or daughter involved in this tragedy. I hope she comes forward and give all those involved the knowledge they need to be able to move on with their lives, so many people affacted that need answers. I sincerely hope she comes forward for you all.”

“Only those 'witnesses' who keep quite have something to hide and if she doesn't then why doesn't she speak up. The mothers and families of these kids have a right to know what happened.”

“I do hope this mystery woman comes forward. She has both a legal and a moral responsibility to tell the Police and Family what she saw.”
