A woman who is accused of murdering a man in a Leicestershire village appeared in court yesterday.

Michelle Mills, 31, appeared at Loughborough Magistrates' Court charged with murdering Edward Miller in Scalford, near Melton. She was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday.

A murder investigation was launched on Tuesday after 20-year-old Mr Miller was reported to have been injured in a house in King Street, Scalford.

Mr Miller, a former pupil at King Edward VIII School, in Melton, was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre where he died the same day.

Mr Miller's family yesterday issued a brief statement through Leicestershire Police on Thursday. They said: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved son, brother and friend. He was a good friend to all who knew him."
