Music company's sound investment
A music production company is hoping to make the most the opportunities on offer at Leicester's Phoenix Square arts and media centre.
Manic Music Productions has created two production suites in the building's workspaces.
Here, the team of four compose and record music for adverts, films, singer/songwriters and up-and-coming bands.
They also hoping to launch a training scheme for musicians.
Managing director Jed Spittle said he expected to invest £20,000 in the move to the Phoenix workspaces over two years.
Jed – a former project manager for insurance firm Allianz – is a songwriter and veteran of the music industry who lives in Charnwood.
He said Phoenix Square's location in the heart of the Cultural Quarter, facilities and impressive reception were among the factors which led them to move in.
He added: "Also, having discounted access to the various-sized screens makes us even more attractive to film makers because they have a potential outlet for showing their product.
"Prior to our moving in, no company was offering digital music services at the centre and we felt this needed correcting."
The team includes established composers and mixers Maryann and Michael Tedstone, a brother and sister from Melton, and young composer and producer Matthew Cotterill, from Rugby.
Michael has just scored an advert for Nike while Matthew has just finished producing an album for band Go Primitive.
Jed said as well as striking fresh deals in the music business, they were looking forward to helping to train young artists.
He said: "Training will be offered on a bespoke one-to-one basis or in a group, night school type environment and can include mastering, mixing and recording techniques, getting the most out of digital audio workstations or less IT based packages covering areas such as film scoring, song-writing, audition preparation and vocal coaching."
Phoenix Square has 22 offices up for lease, of which 13 are available. It also has seven incubator units, all occupied.
Katherine O'Sullivan, marketing manager for Phoenix Square Workspaces, said: "It's really exciting to think that we have now have a tenant company involved in music production, their diverse skills and expertise will add greatly to the growing mix of businesses in the building."
