Recently, there has been much publicised criticism of the standards of service received at local hospitals.

The NHS is reckoned by many to provide what are the finest medical services in the world, and a recent experience of mine encourages me to support that view.

Less than two weeks ago, while supporting an outdoor charity event, it was my misfortune to take ill and need medical attention.

An ambulance was called and, after 35 minutes' treatment by the paramedics, I was whisked off to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

From that moment to when I was discharged the following day, the service I received was exemplary and I have nothing but praise for all those who were part of it.

This is from the paramedics who crewed the ambulance, through the hospital reception staff to the ward staff, nurses, doctors and consultants – all were of an extremely cheerful and uplifting disposition and made my brief stay with them very comfortable.

So well done Ward 15, thank you and God bless you all.

Please don't anyone talk to me in derogatory terms about our NHS, because it just won't wash.

Doug Mills, West Knighton.

I think most people will agree that the populace of this country are basically civilised and law-abiding.

As murder is wrong, there must be a limit or line which must not be crossed, and that line must take the form of a uniformed police officer who represents the law of this land.

If a criminal crosses this line – as in the killing of two women police officers in Manchester – he or she must expect to forfeit any right at all to a place in civilised society by facing the ultimate penalty.

A person who commits this crime cannot lay any claim any sort of diminished responsibility when he intentionally arms himself with lethal weapons and deliberately lures two people to their deaths.

R.Taylor, Gaulby.

“If 'garyb 2011' considers 'agewait's' post to be "fearmongering and politically driven nonsense", I wonder what his thoughts are about the selling off to a private company by Leics. County Council, of nine L.C.C. Care Homes ?
According to a report in the Leic. Mercury (Tue. 25 Sept. 2012), Conservative-run County Hall says it hopes to complete a deal with 'Southend Care' at the end of the month which will see the firm take over the running of the nine homes.
This in spite of the fact that the latest inspection by Care Quality Commission (C.Q.C.) the watchdog for the care industry, show six of the firm's seven in Essex are falling short of the Government required standards of care.
Deputy council leader Cllr. David Sprason reportedly stated that "some £4 million is needed to bring the homes up to standard, which is money we carn't afford".

L.C.C.estimates selling off the homes will see the authority saving £375,000 annually. I wonder
if they would care to predict how much profit annually will be made out of the deal by Southend Care, and how they will manage to make that profit while still spending £xxx million bringing the homes up to standard ? Southend Care will undoubtedly have to rely on some private investment, and private investors of course want to make a profit !

Do you think I'm 'fearmongering' gary by bringing this 'news item' up, or could you accept that as 'agewait's' concern was with the NHS, mine is with Care Homes.”

It's amazing how often garyb comes up with such silly comments when he is completely at a loss to come up with arguments or solutions. He might have more creditability if he could.”

“The picture above shows the BBC Health Website at exactly 6.12pm today. If you click on the screen dump it will expand so that you can examine it more closely. You can see that the current upheaval in the NHS plays very little part in the "main coverage". If you hoke around some regional parts of their site you get the occasional NHS story but by and large things go unreported. Below I list 10 stories that I think the BBC should have reported.

    1. The admission from Jeremy Hunt that he intervened to accelerate the Virgin Care acquisition of NHS Surrey's Community Health also went unreported by the BBC. Given the public interest attached to Hunt intervening on behalf of Newscorp, one would imagine that him lobbying on behalf of Virgin Care was a matter of public interest (here).

    2. The Care Quality Commission have failed 16 private hospitals in the last year and the BBC have not reported one. If we are allowed to combat the myth that private is good public is bad, then it is crucial that these failings are reported. The news that patients of a Virgin hospital were left lying in their own urine has a strong public interest attached to it (here).

    3. The single greatest beneficiary of Tory outsourcing in the last 6 months have been a firm called Interserve, and their donor is a Tory Lord and former advisor to 2 Prime Ministers. The BBC should question the scale of Interserve's £1bn contracts in 6 months (here).

    4. In addition, most of the newspapers today carried a story that £20bn of the NHS is set to be sold off, a figure which I have been reporting for a month or so. The BBC didn't even see fit to mention it (here).

    5. In addition, the BBC fail to mention that John Nash the Trustee and reserved Consultant in Care UK donated £251,000 to the Tory Party. It is up to the BBC to question whether this has led to the under-reporting of 9 CQC Health Inspection failures in the last year (here).

    6. In July, top Tory and Health Select Committee chairperson, predicted that some NHS services would no longer be free at the point of use. There is a strong public interest in the BBC reporting this story (here).

    7. Last week, KPMG were sent in to review the finances of a Primary Care Trust in North Yorkshire. The BBC did not even report it even though this could affect 800,000 patients (here).

    8. Last week the Office of National Statistics showed that 42,000 NHS jobs have been axed in 2 years and yet the BBC rarely mention NHS job losses (here). This is surely a matter for public interest.

    9. The 3 A & E protest marches at the weekend are very poorly covered by the BBC. One Ealing march was briefly reported by the BBC as having been attended by hundreds and it came accompanied with a poor photograph. Even the Daily Mail saw fit to give more accurate reportage of the protest (here).

    10. Half of England's Ambulance Stations are being shut down in 2012. That puts in danger the golden hour especially since A & Es are shutting also. It is a shame on the BBC that they have failed to report this (here).

“If the Nation does NOT wake up soon there will be NO NHS Service...

If People are REALLY concerned about OUR NHS and the rampant/blitzkrieg privatisation currently in full swing under the General Public's distracted nose then I would suggest the following links for anyone genuinely concerned:

Both are extremely factual and reliable sources: the second site is a brilliant source of factual information: Run by Dr Éoin Clarke (PhD)

These are NOT Party Political sites - they are Genuine supporters/Workers within our NHS.

Beware - YOU WILL be Shocked at the Rapid Privatisation already unleashed upon our NHS - which raises serious questions about the BBC and other Media whose SILENCE has been Deafening!”
