The revelation that representatives of at least three Test Match Ground (TMG) counties have been to India to discuss the establishment of an IPL style Twenty20 franchise competition here is a symptom of the biggest issue facing our game.

Too many Test grounds have been developed and there is not the volume of Test cricket to sustain them financially.

The flirtation with IPL city franchises, with its promises of riches from international TV deals and sponsorships, represents an attempt to repair the flawed business models of most of these Test match grounds.
