New 'Handmade' music festival coming to Leicester
Independent music promoters have got together to bring a new music festival to the city.
Handmade will see a number of music, comedy, theatre, cinema and photography events taking place at different venues across the city centre from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26.
Headliners Rolo Tomassi, Nine Black Alps and Three Trapped Tigers were announced today, with more set to be confirmed in the next few weeks.
Organiser John Helps, of Leicester instrumental band Maybeshewill, said he hoped the festival would help fill the gap left by Summer Sundae, which has been cancelled for this year.

He said: "With Summer Sundae given a year off in 2013, we couldn't bear to see a whole year pass without an awesome festival in Leicester.
"While we would never try to replace it, and while we sincerely hope to see it's return in 2014, Handmade is our idea of what an arts festival should be for Leicester."
Early bird tickets are on sale now, priced at £20. This will give festival-goers a wristband allowing entry to all the venues.
Venues confirmed so far are Firebug, The Crumblin' Cookie, The Guildhall and The Leicester People's Photographic Gallery, with more to be added.
"We'll be taking over some of the city's best loved established venues and bars alongside 'reclaimed' and downright unusual spaces," said John. "We plan to squeeze every last inch of our bit of the city full of 'pop-up' creative brilliance.
"You'll be able to catch nationally and internationally renowned musical acts, comedians and performers, alongside exceptional local music, art, film and photography talent.
"We'll have big news for you soon, but we wanted to kick things off by announcing the first of the incredible acts you can expect to see – just to give you an idea of what else will be coming soon.
"It's important to us that this is a festival for Leicester and that it becomes as much part of the fabric of the city as the buildings we're taking over. Consequently we'll be working with friends old and new from across the city to pull together the best new music alongside the national acts.
"We hope you'll join us for what we think will be something genuinely special."
