Nick at the double for extra portion
Boogie-woogie boy Mike Sanchez brings his band, The Portions, to the Musician in Leicester on Sunday, March 21, writes Steve Pumfrey.
And it will certainly be a busy night for double bass player Nick 'Slim' Whitfield, who is also a member of The Drugstore Cowboys, the support band on the night.
"It promises to be a good one and I'll be working real hard," said Nick. "It's also my birthday."
Sanchez has gone back to fronting his own band after four years with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings.
Sanchez established his reputation in the 1980s with the Big Town Playboys, whose frontman, Andy Fairweather-Low used to be in Amen Corner. The Playboys cut an album featuring guitar great Jeff Beck and Sanchez has also worked with Lowell Fulson, Jimmy Nelson and Carey Bell.
Sanchez's most recent album, You Better Dig It, was inspired by a visit to the United States and a trip to the legendary Sun Studios.
The Drugstore Cowboys, whose current album is Chop Poker, play roots roadhouse rockabilly and a healthy dose of kicking country.
