"She is a fantastic role model for our young people."

Gaynor Nash, regional co-ordinator for 2012 Legacy for Children and Young People, said: "The women's hockey bronze medal was GB's first for 20 years, so hockey fans were delighted to see Nicola and her medal.

"She is proving a fine ambassador for her sport."

Nicola said: "This is the start of our Olympic legacy and, as an athlete, it is fantastic for me to be able to see all the hard work that goes on locally."
