Nigel Pearson's ability to stay calm eases the pressure on his Leicester City players, midfielder Andy King has said.

City have just nine games to go in the race for promotion, starting at Derby County tomorrow, and the pressure will mount on all the promotion candidates.

But King said that Pearson's ability to stay cool will help City's cause.

"He is calm and instills confidence into the players," said King.

"He has the ability to step back and look at things rationally and not from a hot-headed game point of view.

"Sometimes it would be easy to come in and see things in the heat of the moment, to change things.

"But he and his staff stay cool and create a good atmosphere around the place.

"Everyone enjoys coming into training every day and that is why there is such a good team spirit and atmosphere every day."

King was given his first-team debut by Pearson and the Wales international admits that the City boss has been a massive influence on his career.

"This is the fourth season that I have played under him," King said.

"I have probably played most of my football with him and he is right up there with the managers I have played under.

"He really gave me the chance in the first place to play regular football in League One. I have a lot to thank him for.

"He did a really good job the first time (he was with City) and he is doing an even better job now.

"He will not let us become complacent with the league position we are in and if he needs to dish it out to us he will do.

"It is all about getting the team promoted and that is obviously what we all want," added King.

Striker David Nugent was also full of praise for his manager and said Pearson was one of the best managers he had played for.

"He has a number of good attributes," he added.

"His team management and player management, the way he talks to the players and gets us ready and up for a game.

"He is a good motivator and calm under pressure. He never loses his head and it is nice as a player to feel that."

“Pearson has bumbled on from one balls up to the next all season. He couldn't handle certain players and had to farm them out. He ignored our own young talent and kept looking for youngsters elsewhere, still does. He persisted with Vardy trying to prove he hadn't bought a mare. Just to try to prove points he cost us points again and again. He has picked substitutes like an idiot from day one. He lost our winning impetus with a shambles of a cup selection. He plays people out of position and wrecks their confidence. I truly hope he goes soon.”

“Geoff - The decision to sack Adkins and Mc Dermott was a poor one. Both had these clubs punching above their weight. I don't think their situation can be compared with Pearsons.

With the amount of investment at Leicester there is a realistic expectation of success THIS SEASON.

    Time to deliver.”

“There is very little chance of Leicester going up under anyone after this season. Having said that I'd sooner anyone were manager than him he is rubbish. it's because of him we are not comfortable automatic now.”

“A further comment on 'tactical naivety'. Danns decision to apparently spend more time becoming an 'other career' mover-and-shaker' in the music business than a leading City midfielder was a big loss to us. So was Richie Wellens' career-threatening injury, from which he's only just returned. With now limited finances, Nigel secured James who'll help secure our future. He spent all our Jan. money replacing Beckford with Wood - a work still in progress. We can't bring in a whole team from Udinese or even three star Egyptians (Watford and Hull) or even the brilliant Bellamy on loan. Given all that, the only reason we are not sure of the play-offs is our strikers inability to take their chances. Even Wood is now missing sitters. I think we'll still just make it. Hopefully, by then, we'll be winning the games we're currently losing.”

“Builds teams wherever he goes, saves Carlisle then gains promotions wherever he goes, rescuing teams in financial trouble ( Carlisle, Hull AND US). Outcome, 'Tactically naive'. (No!!!'s, but correct spelling.) Fergie has just supported Reading's former manager, and no team profits sacking this late in the season. Fans should all calm down. A decent club has been rebuilt from the bottom up and still has a little way to go. Support it. If Nigel stays we go up this season, or next. Sack him and another summer of chaos will follow and promotion certainly won't. It takes a minimum of three years to build a club properly. Which is why Reading and Southampton will be relegated. They sacked McDermott and Adkins. Still want Nigel AND TEAM out?”
