Nigel Pearson says City are a work in progress

Leicester City are on the right road, manager Nigel Pearson believes.

After three wins on trot, Wednesday's 2-2 home draw with Middlesbrough could be viewed as a setback.

Pearson, however, still reckons they are making good progress.

Wednesday's draw, which came courtesy of Jermaine Beckford's late equaliser, meant that City have still to win back-to back league games in almost a year.

But Pearson said his players were in positive mood heading to The Amex Stadium today after their last visit to the south coast, a morale-boosting 2-0 win at Southampton.

"We have made some progress," said Pearson. "It is not just about the players who have come in, the players who are already here have improved their performances as well. I am pleased about that.

"Even in Wednesday night's game, when we did not play as well as we have been playing, there was still an awful lot of endeavour and energy about us, which I think allowed us to get back into the game very late on.

"But we still have to improve our form if we are going to make progress in the league.

"We know that every side in this league presents a challenge for us, but we go there with a bit of confidence after the way we performed at Southampton last time we were away from home. We have competition for places as well which is very healthy.

"The players are in a very positive frame of mind and the mood is good. We were disappointed not to win on Wednesday but there are always positives to take out of games like the spirit they showed in coming back from 2-1 down."

Pearson has no new injury worries but must decide whether to change the side that has started the last four games, with new signings Danny Drinkwater, Nathan Delfouneso, Wes Morgan and Ben Marshall available.

“Watching Man Utd against Chelsea it now seems that the players have started covering their mouths so that they cannot be lip-read when saying something to eachother.

Work in progress means unfinished (unbilled) not "moving forwards".

To that extent we are WIP. To what extent we are "work actually started" remains to be seen, because for whatever reason this set of players seem intent on pressing the self-destruct button whenever they can

When you get a dodgy ref., you make sure you do not transgress, by staying off the Ref's radar, not do everything to bring yourself to their attention.

Injuries and suspensions are mounting so NP is right- he has not yet had the luxury of a full squad to work with, so it is a case of working with what you have got, and hoping that the players will work out how to pass to eachother.

Does anyone have the stats for the pass rate per player and the success rate of the passes per player? That would make very interesting reading.”

    “Nigel,

Sorry to be negative, but we are in a recession and as such, building work tends to be fairly slow,

    Now my point..

The Shard in London is a Work in progress, I have seen it being built on visits to London over the last 3 years and every time I visit I stand back and say Wow, it looks better than last time, and can see the work being put in, even though they've scaled back the investment.

When I watch City I see the opposite, I see or hear of money going in, and to be honest the money thats gone in could probably buy then entire squad, Manager et al, of one of the teams at the top of this division. In fact the Thais only have to look at the 3 who come down from the Prem next year and consider if it would be cheaper and quicker to buy one of them with their parachute payments and established squads, and tweak it a bit or keep bunging money at your work in progress?”

“One for Nigel: Let's hope yesterday wasn't a vote from the official's union. You can win and still lose. Ain't no justice in this world.”

“That's two strikers now sent off for foul and abusive language. Can we at least cut that out. Frustration is never an excuse. That's another game we've lost thru' stupidity, not counting the points Schmeical cost us at F...... It's gonna be a long summer as Nigel sorts this team out. And Beckford missed another glorious chance poorly, before getting sent off. Failed at Everton, scattergun here. All that talent, but where's the composure? Can we have some Martin O'Neill discipline, Nigel.”

“Let's hope the Owners are as patient as some of the supporters a willing to be, and hope TOP doesn't get the knives out. After spending millions of pounds on the club facilities like a new training ground, a new pitch, Sven's Millions for players, Nigels contract, plus new players in, and Svens severance pay. If I were the owner and a none performing business was dog like LCFC is (in a business sense that is) to Kingpower. I would be very disappointed and probably pull the pin on the whole business and who could blame them!!”

“Leicester City may well be 'W.I.P.' but is it the right progress.

We haven't gone forward since NP's arrival and whilst I think these latest signings will be a good thing too much damage has already been caused this season. Another one to write off after the promise of so much more!!”

“The rest of this season should give NP the time to mold his team for next year .He will have some good players to choose from and dont forget I pick this team to go all the way in the FA cup .I hope loosing beckford wont muck that up”

“Progress means better than you were previously. As of today, we've played 29 games and compared with last season we are 3 points and 3 places worse off than we were then having played the same number of games. We finished the season in 10th place and unless we do make progress and quick!! I really can't see us bettering that this time around. Two wins in the last 10 games nad 10 points from thirty is surely not playoff form and with injuries and possible suspensions coming up, can anyone truthfully say we can still make it now?”

“Can this team possibly find any more ways to lose now danns and beckford will miss games for being red carded .looks like next year wont come quick enough.we are obviously not ready for the premier league.time for NP to figure out who is staying and who is going if we get the right money for them.I hate to sound so bleak but this team continually keeps puting so much pressure on themselves, and through the years I think this team holds the record for most last minnute losses”
