Poet and storyteller Siobhan Logan will give an illustrated talk and performance about the Northern Lights tomorrow.

The talk is based on her new book of poetry and prose inspired by the people of the Arctic Circle and the aurora, which is called Firebridge to Skyshore: A Northern Lights Journey.

The event will take place at the National Space Centre, off Corporation Road, in Belgrave, Leicester, at 7.30pm.

Siobhan, from Leicester, said: "This talk is for anybody who is fascinated with the Northern Lights.

"We'll see beautiful images of the lights and explore ancient stories about them.

"But the story that science unfolds – of sun dust travelling through space to light up our arctic skies – is as fabulous as any of the myths."

In 2007, Siobhan was sponsored by the Radio and Space Plasma Physics Group of Leicester University to travel to an auroral site in Tromso, North Norway.

She talked to one of the reindeer herders about the stories they were told as children about the lights. She then returned in October 2008 to see the Northern Lights for herself.

She said: "It was beyond anything I'd imagined."
