Opening challenge match catches the imagination
The first Sensas Challenge match has proved a big success.
Fished on the River Soar and the Frand Union Canal, Loughborough, it attracted six teams of six, split between the two venues. There were four individual entries, taking the total number to 40.
Andy Astel (Loughborough Maver Soar) finished top in the river area with 7-13, with Mark Russell (Leicester Sensas) second on 7-08. Third was Pete Marlow (Leicester Sensas), 7-05, from Ant King (Trentmen), 6-09, and Mark Godfrey (Leicester Sensas), 6-00.
The canal stole the show, however, with a staggering 146-12 caught by 20 anglers.

Malc Mott (Loughborough Maver Soar) took 14-09 of it, from Sam Rendle (Trentmen) 13-04, John Shellard (Leicester Sensas), 12-12, Gary Smith (Leicester Sensas), 13-13, and Mark Eustace (Leicester Sensas) 8-01.
Organiser Joff Woodgett said: "This new competition got the real thumbs up from the anglers that took part.
"I am sure it will have a great future and, with a little more planning, be a major event next year."
The second round takes place at the same venues on Sunday.
Kev Orr (All Seasons Angling) triumphed in the Wednesday Kobra Open at Dynamite Makins with 28 carp in a huge catch of 120-08. Second was team-mate Matt Hall, 48-04.
Knighton AC's match, fished at Alder Lake, Shearsby Valley, was won by Steve Oakes with 67-12. Second was Pete Wootton, 62-05, from Graham Taylor, 54-02, and Joe Oakes, 48-11.
Paul Cooper was top man in the Oadby Royal British Legion match at Peatling Pools.
Cooper caught 162-07, to win by a sizeable margin from Steve Jones, 119-09, Ashley Stone, 92-02, and George Reynolds, 51-10.
Ratby AC fished the Mill on the Soar on Saturday and Dan Hull came out on top with 72-00. Second was John Perkins, 37-10, from Tom Watt, 29-12, and Paul Moult, 29-10.
