Leicester pair Rebecca Ayton and Jay Chauhan have been recognised nationally for their work on cricket's Chance to Shine campaign.

Ayton was awarded the MCC Spirit of Cricket award and Chauhan scooped the Young Leader of the Year award at the Brit Insurance Annual Achievement Awards, held at Lord's Cricket Ground.

The MCC Spirit of Cricket award recognises an individual who has delivered a successful programme bringing an improved awareness, respect and behaviour.

Ayton has designed and developed a programme based on social and emotional aspects of learning, which she delivered to 2,500 children across 23 schools last year.

Ayton said: "It is a nice recognition of all the work that all the partners have put in. It is an amazing feeling."

The Young Leader of the Year award recognises a young person who has demonstrated leadership skills through their involvement with umpiring, officiating and managing youth cricket at their local club.

The award judges were impressed by Chauhan's commitment to the Chance to Shine programme for completing more than 100 hours of volunteering through officiating.

He said: "I'm speechless. I have no words to describe this. I just want to thank the people who have put me up for the award."
