Pantomime making return
A pantomime will be staged at De Montfort Hall after a gap of nearly 20 years.
The venue announced that a professional show would be staged in 2013 – 19 years after the last production there.

Antony Flint, general manager of De Montfort Hall, said: "I have only been in this post for two months but one of the first things I wanted to do was to tell people we are bringing their panto back.
"It will be a traditional title but will be done in a way unique to Leicester. With 2013 also marking the hall's centenary year, it seems the perfect time for the panto to return."

Mr Flint said it was too early to say what the show would be or who would star in it.
He said: "It is very exciting and I am glad families in Leicester will not have to go to Nottingham or Derby to get their panto fix."
The last pantomime to be staged at the hall was Cinderella with EastEnders star Steve McFadden, alias Phil Mitchell.
The following year a production of Mother Goose was cancelled weeks before it was due to open.

“As expressed on the other comments, Leicester has always had good quality panto.
The Little Theatre for example, produces a traditional panto most years and is always a sell out.
Yes this is an amateur theatre but produces entertainment to a very high standard. The kids always love it and the parents and grandparents do too (they may even sport a glow stick or flashing ring to join in the fun!).
Another advantage is that local children get the opportunity to perform as dancers (via audition) so this involves the Leicester community.
This year the Little Theatre are producing Robin Hood in December as well as Kirby Muxloe Players producing Goldilocks and The 3 Bears in January next year.”

“Debbie_C is right. There are always good pantomimes to be seen around Leicester.
Maybe not in the city itself but just outside.
Like Kirby Muxloe for instance, and still only £6 a ticket.”

“No doubt it will make a thumping loss, why was the last panto pulled? The Loughborough panto is always good and only 15 miles up the road so there is no shrtage of pantos . I remember going to Coventry for their panto which always had very big names starring. Leicester will need to get some very big names to make a success of it.”

“Don't be daft Debbie. Loughborough and Hinkly ARE outside of Leicester! The little theatre panto is good, but its an amateur one and I cant wait to see a big old panto back in the city like the ones i used to go to as a kid. Good work de monford hall, don;t listen to the miserys on here!”
