Leicester City's new manager Paulo Sousa wants to keep striker DJ Campbell.

Campbell scored his fourth goal in as many pre-season games on Saturday when City were held 1-1 by League Two side Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.

Sousa said he had been impressed with the fitness and attitude of the 28-year-old.

Campbell's days at the Walkers Stadium appeared to be over at the end of last season after his successful loan spell at Blackpool and several clubs have expressed an interest in ending his so-far unsuccessful three-year stay with City.

But, after the game, Sousa said he intends to keep Campbell, who seems rejuvenated under the former Portugal international midfielder.

However, he also said he only wants to keep players who are fully committed to him and the club, and that any player who wanted to leave could do so.

"DJ is in a great moment," he said. "He is full of confidence and he is one of the players in better shape. He will help us a lot through the season. I see him being here this season. He is very happy in training and he is enthusiastic.

"He is the type of player I want to work with because we see when he loses the ball some good reactions also."

Sousa added: "He is very committed with me and to the club and the fans. He is someone who wants to do great things for the club during this season."

Sousa is set to complete the signing of Slovenian striker Leon Crncic at the start of this week after the 20-year-old agreed to a one-year deal.

The former Atalanta forward was set to undergo a medical before signing.

Sousa said he had other targets identified as he strengthens his squad.

"We want to bring different players in but I will talk about the players only when they have signed the contract because I can't talk about speculation," he said.

"My way to do things is to first complete all the signings we want and then we start to talk about them, because they will then belong to us.

"We have to show them respect and their clubs and, more than this, respect for my other players."

“The club issued the statement that the Birch wasn't being forced to leave. I presume that was in response to Fans threatening to vote with their feet and ask for refunds.

I hope they don't think they've got past that period and can now continue with the plan. If so how stupid do they think people are?”

“You hit the nail right on the head Chappy. Fred is Glen Monsell. How many more Idiotic names is he to come up with.

Fred-Glen I am a true Blue City supporter!! Have been since the day I could walk.

I unlike yourself don't go to other forums and make out I am someone else like you do.

You will get no sympathy on our forum Gunger Din. You are hated by many because of your deception, and underhand snide remarks against every one of our boys in the shirt. Also you mentioned when PS came on board that he will be gone in 6 months time. What City true blue City supporter would say that?

So you and Glen clear of and leave us true City supporters to discuss LCFC.

Funny enough we have never heard from this Glen bloke before you chose him as another one of your alias's. Then use him to hurtle abuse at me.

Fred I love it, so tell Glen to give me some more. You lonely sad old perverted fat pig.

    More crackling anyone?”
