Peterborough vs Leicester: McCann's the man for Posh
Grant McCann's late strike halted Leicester's winning streak in the npower Championship as the automatic promotion chasers were beaten 2-1 by bottom-of-the-table Peterborough at London Road.
Leicester, who remain in second place for now ahead of Hull's evening kick-off at Brighton, looked like making it six straight victories when Ben Marshall put them in front at the start of the second half.
But Peterborough, unbeaten in their last five home league matches after this result, hit back through Davide Petrucci's superb strike before McCann completed the turnaround two minutes from time.
Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and on-loan Manchester United midfielder Petrucci were recalled as Posh boss Darren Ferguson switched to a 4-4-2 formation.

Nathaniel Knight-Percival, part of a three-man defence against Burnley last weekend, and teenager Joe Newell were the players to make way as they dropped down to the bench.
Injury forced Leicester manager Nigel Pearson to change a winning team.
In-form striker Chris Wood suffered an injury in training late in the week, causing the Kiwi to miss out entirely, and Jamie Vardy replaced him in the starting line up.
A bright start to the game saw chances at both ends. Leicester captain Wes Morgan flung himself in front of George Boyd's goalbound effort before Peterborough goalkeeper Robert Olejnik bundled Marshall's free-kick round a post.
Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel had to be at his best midway through the first half to get down low and push McCann's free-kick wide of his left-hand post as it looked to be creeping into the bottom corner.
Lee Tomlin was unlucky not to see a tidy piece of skill rewarded with a goal when he brought down a long ball and turned his marker but his shot, with Schmeichel beaten, went wide.
The best chance of the first half was created by Leicester after 33 minutes. Paul Konchesky marauded forward from left-back and picked out David Nugent with a cut-back but the Foxes' leading scorer saw his first-time shot brilliantly saved one-handed by Olejnik down to his left.
Dwight Gayle had a chance just before half-time when he found himself free in the penalty area but Morgan was on hand again to make an excellent block.
The visitors took the lead with a well-worked move seven minutes into the second half.
Midfielder Danny Drinkwater burst into the box down the right and Vardy dummied his low cross allowing Marshall to sweep a shot into the top corner of the net from 10 yards out.
Vardy came within a studs length of making it 2-0 shortly afterwards but was just unable to get a touch to Nugent's driven, low cross.
At the other end, Morgan made further blocks midway through the second half to thwart Tomlin and then Petrucci before Schmeichel saved at his near post from Boyd.
Peterborough were piling on the pressure and they got their reward after 74 minutes when Petrucci thumped an unstoppable right-foot volley from the edge of the area into the top corner of the net.
Posh's tails were up and Schmeichel had to push away a shot from Tomlin, but there was little the Dane could do to keep out McCann's winning goal.
The hosts broke down the right and Tomlin teed-up Boyd inside the box.
Boyd showed tremendous composure with Leicester defenders streaming around him, picking out McCann on the edge of the box and the Ulsterman drilled a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Substitute Martyn Waghorn had a glorious last-minute chance to rescue a point for the Foxes but swept his shot over the crossbar, while Tomlin hit the bar at the other end as Peterborough counter-attacked.

“People have eyes. I saw two pre season games and two since. Leicester have been on TV 4 or 5 times where in fact you see more than you ever would at a match. Is anyone seriously expecting me to give up my weekend activities to go to every match. Ill leave that to those who have no such activities like me in years past. So Ash I do have eyes I can see and in the pre season games alone I was shocked how anyone could blow a million on Vardy. He looked like a complete novice and I've seen nothing since to change my opinions. OK he has had his moments but so does anyone. he has precious few of them though. No one I say again is blaming him for that chance Ash. Maybe the other 50 or so chances. It's not that at all. He looks like a boy trying to play a mans game. He is clumsy, anxious and has skill levels far below what is required in this league.
He is plonked on at every opportunity by a guy who just cannot admit he made a mare of a signing. NP thought it was a good one. I thought it was a good one. Quite a few on here thought it wasn't or they had reservations. Well they were the ones who were right. He is not a good signing and I'd warrant the other main party who were interested I.e Blackpool are delighted now that they did not get him. Everyone makes mistakes and I've made hundreds. NP should get him out on loan so he can learn where it does not harm the prospects of LCFC. Ok Ash you say he was one of the better players yesterday but from what I've read on here nearly the whole team did not turn up.
NP is rightly annoyed at the lack of effort but he is there to ensure there is effort. A lot of people are angry sometimes that he cannot let put his ego on the back burner sometimes and admit he is wrong. It's one game it's not terminal. No team wins all the time. It's not outrageous for folk to think that we can take points from the bottom team who despite what some folk think has one of the worst home records going and recently lost two matches at home 1-4 to less than decent opposition. It does not take a genius or a person who goes to every match to see that Nugent and Vardy together are hopeless.”

“Yorkie... I agree with everything that you are saying. We lost a chance to put some daylight between us & the pack yesterday & blew it...Pearson himself admitted as much in his post match interview. Ghost correctly points out that we are still second in the league, having said that you'd be hard stretched to slide a playing card inbetween us & the chasing pack, so yesterday really does need to be a one off.
The real bone of contention here is Vardy & the question of wether he has taken a leap too far in playing at this level? I wasn't at yesterday's game, due to geographical reasons. But I did go to the Cardiff & Huddersfield games over the holiday & watched he Boro game on TV here in the U.S, It was painfully obvious that the lad is out of his depth, despite being an honest trier!
No one could ever fault Tim Henman for trying, but history will always say that he never quite cut the mustard, despite having guts & endeavour to move mountains & with a nation fully behind him! Any succesful side needs a squad, not just eleven capable players, to carry them towards the finish line...especially when injuries dictate so.
Managers have to select on form, pure & simple. Vardy was like a fish out of water, especially against Middleboro'...and conceding a penalty (albeit hat it was missed) must have knocked his confidence even further.
Futacs on the other hand, looked good on his recent appearances off the bench & surely should have been the natural replacement for Wood yesterday, given his physical presence, especially against a side Iike Peterborough, who we knew were going to scrap for every ball.
If Pearsons being honest with himself, he'll admit that he made a selection boo boo yesterday & whilst it was obvious that he wasn't the only one off colour, it's never a good sign when 5,000 travelling faithful start to give one of their own a bad time.
As I said earlier, yesterday was more of a setback than a disaster...but there are a few home truths that we have to face up to I'm afraid...
Have a good week everyone....roll on Huddersfield :)”

“Simple Fact is that we won't EVER win every game...
And even if we did it would be so boring and some would be moaning that we wernt winning by enough or not keeping clean sheets or not spending enough or that the Kop was the wrong way round or that we havnt replaced the Birch or Filbert Fox or we should be playing in a different kit or that the club shop is too small or the owners are foreign or that we don't have any England internationals or we dont play like Barcelona or King plays too deep or Vardy don't score enough or Kasper dont take penalties or that we played when it snowed or we played when it rained or we played when it was too sunny or that we were on Sky or ESPN or we didnt win the Cup or we didnt sign Rooney or we were better with Sven......
2nd in the league is the best we have been for years HELLO!!!!!!”

“What is this obssession with Vardy? The man has a job to do playing in a position which suits him and in a formation where he is playing off the shoulder of a big front man. In that he is just like Nugent and Waggy. Like the other two he struggles when each play with the other but all look good with Wood.
Waggy and Nuge were beginning to build a partnership when in came Wood and Waggy loses his match sharpness in conseqeunce. Solution play a Wood-alike with one of the other three.
Futacs is the nearest Wood-alike we have but he has not been given air-time. If that is because he is not good enough then we should have bought or loaned in another Wood-alike when we had the chance. Now with Hopper back maybe once he has been nursed back to fitmess he might come into the equation
NP has to work with what he has got and only he is really in a position to know all the player issues in the run up to kick-off.
One thing is certain, the pairings without Wood stutter and our best non- Wood return has been from Nugent and Waghorn. If Futacs is not the man for the occasion then surely Waggy gets the nod from the start. Otherwise play Futacs with Nuge from the start and against the bottom team that would have been what I would have done.”

“Dobbo, I understand the impact that Chris Wood has made and have seen it, but one man does not make a team, but to say JV missed the chance in the first half, like I said he needed to be 6 inches longer in the legs and if he had timed his run quicker he would have been offside.
Funny that he was pressing the back four and the boro defence had to move the ball quicker, made a few mistakes, but then off for Waggy, the pressing stopped and Peterborough score 2, Waggy misses a great chance and Vardy gets rubbished, he was one of the better players yesterday, you really need to start going to games and form your own opinion and not that of your neighbour, Stringy, Youngy and various posters on here who do not attend live matches”

“I think we've been riding our luck recently. wolves and huddersfield were lucky not to get something out of the games. Boro exposed our tendency to not close down on the edge of the box. We need to be a strong, well organised team who can hold on to a 1-0 . I'm not sure we are ready to go up this year. I think we need one more season to mature into a stronger side. We are a good capable Championship side and I'm enjoying watching my side win more games than lose at the moment. Swansea went up by playing classy football on a consistent basis and this is something we'd do well to emulate. we are not to that standard yet.”

“Ash no one is blaming JV for the goals conceded or chances not taken. The fact is he is a conference/division one player at best and cannot contribute anything other than running around in a match. This isn't enough to warrant a place in the team. Pearson is not the worst man ever but he is no God either.
Eastonian nail on the proverbial head. I said before the only difference the last 5 games is Wood. They have always created chances it's just back to how it's been all along. The fact is that outside of around 14 players who of course are not always fit we have nothing of mention. Outside of two strikers we have nothing that is worth while at this moment in time.”

“Having more possession and more attempts on target means absolute diddly-squat. It goals that win matches and with less possession and less attempts on target our opponents won, now how do you square that?!!”
