Petrol promotion leads to queues on the A6 in Birstall this morning
A cut price petrol promotion brought rush hour traffic chaos to the city this morning.
A queue formed at the BP garage on the A6 in Birstall which was selling petrol and diesel at 77p a litre for a Gem 106 Retro Petrol Ticket promotion.
Traffic backed up to the Red Hill island which Area Traffic Control described as “gridlocked due to a massive queue”.
The lucky first 106 motorists were able to fill up with a maximum of 45 litres from the filling station’s 13 pumps at the cut price.

“I also agree about your shopping comments. If I'm with my partner in the car, one of us fills up, and whilst the other pays, the one driving moves the car away from the pump so someone else can fill up. I once sat behind a woman for 10 minutes (as I was hemmed in from behind) as she sat at the first pump of 3 (the other two being empty) waiting for her husband to pay. I even knocked on her window and shouted to her to move forward, but she just sat there staring straight ahead ignoring me! THEN her husband gave ME grief when he came out after doing his shopping ten mins later!”

“zygote 3, absolutely. Its hilarious how many people think you can only fill up your car on the side that the filler is, and the same people are the ones who sit in the entrance to the forecourt, so you can see empty pumps, but they wont use them because "the filler is on the wrong side"!!”

“@sansue - cant say I have ever seen anyone do that. But I bet they are the same sorts of people that only use a pump that is on the same side of their car as their fuel tank, despite the fact that the noozle will reach around the other side of the car.
I think number one petrol station anti social behaviour is doing your weekly shopping in Tescos Express, whilst leaving your car parked at the pump, oblivious to leave people waiting for 15 minutes.”

“This makes me think of the morons who stop in the entrance to a petrol station and refuse to move on to the forecourt any further because they MUST MUST MUST get the first vacant pump. I usually drive around the idiots who do this and join one of the queues for a pump. I had someone come at me with a golf club once when I did it! They honestly thought I was the one who had done something antisocial rather than them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Talking of fuel prices there is plenty of variation at the moment. I have seen unleaded at the following prices per litre in the Leicester area in the last day or so.
Sainsburys Fosse Park 132.9p
Tesco South Wigston 134.9p
BP Garage South Wigston 136.9p
Shell London Road (near the racecourse) 135.9p
BP Garage on the A6 in Oadby a staggering 141.9p
I drove past the latter earlier today and people were buying from there, this garage always seems to be the most expensive for fuel in the Leicester area, it appears to be the only one that hasnt reduced its prices. (Moneygrabbing or what? Dare I say).”

“That's probably about the fair price for fuel at the moment. Anything more is daylight robbery.”

“I bet the people who were were stuck in the traffic jams due to the queue were not so happy.
Although good luck to the 106 people who got the fuel, the 107th person must of been sick!!”
