Sloe Food: Rachel Birch with Sloe Gin at last year's East Midlands Food and Drink Festival
Saturday
Event: the East Midlands Food and Drink Festival
Brooksby Hall, Brooksby, near Melton.

At the risk of repeating on ourselves like a two-day-old egg sarnie, it’s the East Midlands Food and Drink Festival this weekend.
There’ll be loads of stalls and cheffy guests. And stuff to try. So don’t have a big lunch before heading out. And it’s on Sunday, too.
Sunday
Music: The Carducci String Quartet
De Montfort Hall, Leicester
Book on 0116 233 3111
After the success of BBC1’s Maestro, where DJ Goldie and comedian Sue Perkins taught the great unwashed to appreciate the fineries of classical music, there might be an entirely new kind of audience for this 11am concert.
The Carducci String Quartet have travelled the world, picking up praise and accolades wherever they go.
Sunday’s programme includes Vaughan Williams, Revel and Beethoven. And here’s a thing: after you’ve drunk in the sound of the strings you can dine with the musicians at a lunch at the Belmont Hotel. You’ll have to book in advance for that, though.
