Plant society offers rosy set of lectures
The Rutland group of the Hardy Plant Society has announced its programme for the coming months.
The main event is a lecture called Rosemoor Reborn at 7.30pm on Saturday, February 20 at Uppingham Theatre, by Christopher Bailes, curator of the Royal Horticultural Society at Rosemoor, in Devon.
Tickets cost £10, including refreshments. To buy them, send a stamped, addressed envelope to Jim Bolton, Acre End, The Jetties, North Luffenham LE15 8JX. Cheques should be made payable to Rutland Hardy Plant Society.
The usual meetings are held at Uppingham CofE School in Belgrave Road.
On Tuesday, March 9, the speaker will be John Sutton, on 'New herb perennials introduced in 21st Century'. On Tuesday, April 20, the speaker will be Glynis Dyer, on Winter Bloomers on Display.
Both start at 7.30pm.
Wigston: Guthlaxton College is presenting Half a Sixpence, a musical comedy based on Kipps, a novel by H G Wells.
The performances run from Wednesday, March 3 to March 6 and feature drama, dance and music students.

Wigston: The annual general meeting of the Greater Wigston Historical Society will be held in the United Reformed church Boys' Brigade rooms, Long Street, tonight, at 7.30pm.
It will be followed by members' contributions called 'Where I worked'.

KEGWORTH: Kegworth parish councillors have agreed to set a precept for the year 2010-11 of £82,828, being an increase of 3% over the current year.
It would result in a charge of £70.19 for a band D property.
Syston: Michael Caine film Is Anybody There? will be screened by Syston Arts and Recreation in the Community next week.
The screening takes place at the Old Chapel, Chapel Street, Syston on Wednesday, February 24.
The Coffee Shop opens at 2pm and the film starts at 2.30pm.

Birstall: Birstall Ladies Bowling Club is holding a bumper coffee morning on March 6, at the Birstall Methodist Church Coffee Shop, in Wanlip Lane, from 10am until midday.
