Two armed robbers raided a bank in Narborough Road, Leicester, at lunchtime yesterday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the robbery at the Santander bank near Danvers Road.

The two men entered the bank and threatened the cashier with what is believed to be a handgun. They fled on foot and are believed to have run along Danvers Road, turning right onto Compton Road.

The men are both thought to be white although one was wearing a face covering. One of the men was wearing a grey hooded top and grey trousers while the other was wearing a black tracksuit with red stripes down each leg.

Detective Sergeant John Farndon said: "Narborough Road on a Saturday lunchtime is teeming with people. The student community is back for the new term and the local community will always take advantage of a nice, sunny Saturday to get out and about with their families or do a Saturday shop.

"I'm therefore absolutely certain that there will be people who witnessed this robbery or who saw these men, who we haven't yet spoken to.

"We're particularly keen to know if you saw them after they made their escape, did you see them, did you see them get into a car or van? Do you recognise the clothing descriptions, perhaps you saw them in the area this morning? If so we'd really like you to get in touch."

Police said the incident is not being linked to any other robberies but they are keeping an open mind.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Sgt John Farndon on 101.
