A murder investigation was launched today after a man died of a stab wound.

The 23-year-old, who has not been named, was injured in Loughborough this morning.

Police were called when the man was taken to the NHS walk-in centre in Pinfold Gate at 2.45am. He died despite paradmedics’ attempts to treat the wound.

Later police cordoned off an area of Meadow Lane at its junction with Hanford Way and Belton Road. Part of the nearby canal towpath was also closed.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Castle said: “The investigation is in its very early stages and officers are making a number of enquiries in the area this morning.

“We are keen to piece together the circumstances that led to this incident and we would urge anyone who may have any information about a disturbance in the Meadow Lane area between 2am and 3am this morning to please contact the police immediately.”

A 38-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the man’s death. They remained in police custody this morning.

Contact Leicestershire police on 0116 222 2222.
