Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a kebab shop owner in Leicester.

The body of Dogan Dogan, 50, was found in the flat above the Aladdin takeaway, in Evington Road, Leicester, on Sunday, January 8.

He had been tied up. Police do not yet know how the married father died.

Last night, two men, aged 46 and 31, were arrested in connection with his death.

They were in police custody and are due to be questioned by detectives further on suspicion of murder.

Four other men were also arrested but police said they were not connected to the death.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Davies, from the East Midlands special operations major crime unit, is leading the investigation.

He said: "While we have made a number of arrests, we are still appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact us."

Mr Dogan is believed to have spent some of Saturday evening at another shop he owned, Pizzaman, in Church Street, Lutterworth.

He then went to Aladdin, in Linton Street, at some point in the evening and his body was found there at 2.20pm the next day.

Detectives said there were no knife wounds and no motive had as yet been established. Over the weekend, officers were in the Evington area handing out posters and leaflets appealing for information.

On Friday, a number of items believed to be linked to Mr Dogan's death were found at the side of a section of Palmerston Way, between Oadby and Knighton. Officers spent much of Friday searching hedges and grass verges in the area.

They said they were not able to disclose the nature of the items found for operational reasons, but urged residents to check their bins and gardens for unfamiliar items.

Police also said two adverts had been issued online via Facebook – one in English, the other in Turkish, as Mr Dogan was of Turkish descent.

The adverts are targeted at the more than 900,000 people who live in the city and county.

In a statement issued through Leicestershire police, Mr Dogan's family said: "Our husband and father was a well-respected family man whose only goal in life was to secure the future of his family.

"He was very well liked and trusted within the community.

"Whoever is responsible for this has done it to an innocent man. We are anxious that anybody that can help come forward with whatever information they have."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
