Police have urged parents to keep an eye on their children's use of the internet.

Officers issued the advice on Tuesday – International Safer Internet Day.

The force is running a series of short films made by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) on its website.

The films highlight the dangers of children being groomed online.

Luka Moscetano, a youth involvement officer with Leicestershire Police, said: "It is likely your child's use of the internet will be progressing at a greater rate than yours.

"That's why it's even more important to be involved in your child's online life.

"We'd advise you to sit down with your children and watch the CEOP prevention videos on YouTube together, discussing the moral of each story."

Police advice includes keeping a computer in a room everyone uses, checking your child's browsing history and installing software that blocks inappropriate sites.
