Midland Railway brought the national Champion of Champions title back to Leicestershire for the first time since 2006.

It was the Syston-based side's first triumph in the coveted English Pool Association event, in Great Yarmouth, the seven-man line-up coming through a field of 96 teams from all over the country to take the title.

Club 147 A were the county's last winners of the title six years ago, but this time the limelight belonged to Lee Brown's Midland men.

Along with Gaz Mitchell, Gavin Lomax, Shaun Payne, Frazer Oliver, Kane Wilson-Skinner and Scott Taylor, the Railway team qualified from the round-robin stages into the last 32.

They enjoyed three comfortable wins from the last 32 to the semi-finals, but they needed to win a nail-biting final-frame decider against CSC in the last four.

Railway won through 9-8 to take their place in the final against Norman Snooker, who were swept aside 8-4.

Club 147 A were beaten in the last eight, going down 8-4 to CSC.

Leicester Ladies reached the quarter-finals of the women's Inter-League Knock-out before losing 8-5 to Staffordshire.

Foxy Ladies failed to make it into the last 32.
