Miss Rubenstein's lament of vanishing heritage sites (Mailbox, September 18) touched a sensitive nerve with me.

For many years, I've seen lovely old sites bulldozed and replaced with horrible architecture.

I've also seen idyllic pastures churned up by various developers. Alas, they are gone forever.

Surely, such a small country as ours should respect and preserve the natural beauty that's left and preserve it, even the green field at the bottom of the road.

I fear soon there won't be much of it left.

G Newton, Leicester.

When you have cut down every tree

When you've polluted every river

When you've killed every buffalo

When you've ruined the Earth

When you've overpopulated to extinction

What good will your money be then?
