A pub pool team has raised £3,000 for a leukaemia charity in honour of a young friend who died from the disease.

Leicester musician Jersey Budd was at the Bulls Head, in Countesthorpe, to receive the cheque.

The money will go to Leukaemia Research.

They raised the sum after Richard Shultka, a member of the pool team, died from leukaemia. He was in his early 20s.

Glen Jones, landlord at the Bulls Head, said: "Richard played for our pool team and died from leukaemia two years ago.

"He was a great lad, really bubbly and was good fun to be with. He came in to drink quite a bit and joined the pool team and was a good mate to all of us.

"It really took us all back, seeing how quickly it all happened, so we thought we'd organise a few things in his honour."

The pub's pool team has organised sponsored bike rides to Skegness and collected money at matches in Richard's honour.

“Well done to everyone for raising so much money for such a worthy cause.”
