Pupils produce a magazine for young people
A team of journalists has completed the first edition of a magazine for young people.
Do U Get Me? was produced by 40 year nine students from Wreake Valley College, in Syston, and Roundhill Community College, in Thurmaston.
Some 5,000 copies of the publication are being distributed to the primary and secondary schools in the two villages.
The project, funded by Leicestershire County Council, was led by Tina Barton.
She said: "The magazine is about all the issues the pupils, who are aged 13 or 14, are into. They also visited primary schools to get younger children to contribute.
"They were given media equipment, with things such as laptops and cameras, and they learned how to do interviews and went off and did the work.
"There is an article about online bullying, pieces about events, restaurant reviews and an interview with Leicester Sound presenters."
The magazine was launched at Syston Community Methodist Church on Monday.
Tina said: "The students talked about the magazine and the parents were all blown away.
"Now the kids are holding assemblies in schools to recruit more people. We've got the money for at least two more editions."
