Puppet show entertains at Newarke Houses Museum
CHILDREN enjoyed a half term treat with a difference at Newarke Houses Museum in the city on Wednesday (February 14).
It may not have been quite what the children had in mind when they first saw the small 18th century hand puppet theatre, but enthusiasts Peter and Sylvia Peasgood from Leicester, delivered a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk that had them enthralled.
Mr Peasgood, a retired physics lecturer in his 80s, said: "We used to have a big following when we did shows at the Guildhall, thats when we did about five shows a year.
"Now we just do this once a year. It's a show taken from an original script that should be three hours long, but we shortened it to 20 minutes which is about right for a young audience."
