Injured servicemen are being supplied with quilts made by women from Leicestershire.

Brenda Lincoln and her small team have made and donated more than 200 quilts to Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre, in Surrey.

They are proving so popular with the soldiers that they are requesting special details, such as their regimental name and crest to be included on their quilt.

Mrs Lincoln said: "My husband, when in the Army, had received rehabilitation care.

"I also received medical care at the expense of the services. As a result, I felt that I could repay a little by making quilts."

For more than a year, Mrs Lincoln and a few of her friends in Lutterworth have got together each week to make the quilts.

She said: "We started off in a small way but it really has taken off.

"The commanding officer at Headley Court told me that the men like to receive them and take them when they leave.

"Soldiers have also told me that they would like to have the crest and name of their regiment included.

"We decided to make them from men's shirts as that would be suitably masculine."

They also use old sheets and duvet covers.

"We are very grateful for the many generous donations of shirts and fabrics to use on the backs of the quilts."

The group is due to make one of its regular deliveries of quilts next week.

They always need more materials.
