A couple had to be rescued from their car at Stockerston, near Uppingham, while many roads liable to flooding became impassable.Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service put out an appeal for people to only call 999 where people were genuinely at risk or where there was a fire or chemical hazard.

Anyone who finds a road that is flooded with no warning signs should telephone Leicestershire County Council on 0116 305 0001 to pass on details.
