The IT manager, who lives in Hinckley, achieved this stunning shot by balancing a tripod in the passenger footwell of his car and setting a long shutter speed on his camera.

He used a remote control to start the camera, which automatically took a series of about 50 photographs as he drove.

The snap was taken as part of a project he set himself last year, to take a photograph every day. This was day 263.

"I knew people would send in pictures of rivers and windows, so I thought I would try something different," he said.

The father-of-two said he would put his prize of £100 Jessops vouchers towards new camera equipment.

Leicester Mercury chief photographer Andy Baker said: "I liked this photograph because it involved a slow shutter speed, at night, and created a photograph that is vibrant and full of energy. Phil gave his idea a go, and it worked."

Now, we are looking for our next winner.

Andy said: "We like to see pictures with people in them but this need not always be the case. The old and new elements should relate to each other in an interesting way."

The closing date for our latest competition is midnight on November 18. There are £100 of Jessops vouchers up for grabs for the winner.

Entrants are allowed to submit up to six photographs.

Include a short caption explaining each picture, along with your name, address and contact details.

“'Old and new'? Get Prince William visiting the Richard III dig site and the Mercury could win it's own competition with a quick snap!”
