Thousands of people are set to gather over the weekend to honour the war dead at services and parades across Leicestershire. Here are some of the events taking place across the county.

LEICESTER: The War Memorial in Leicester’s Victoria Park will be the focus of the city’s annual Remembrance Day service and parade. The parade will leave De Montfort Hall at 10.20am to make its way to the Cenotaph. Leicester Lord Mayor, Councillor Abdul Osman, will lead the procession of dignitaries to their seats at 10.45am, shortly before the Lord Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Tim Stevens, begins the remembrance service at 10.55am. Car parking will be available at Granville Road, which will only be accessible from London Road due to road closures for the event. Normal parking restrictions on Victoria Park Road and London Road will be lifted to provide additional on-street parking. Disabled car parking for blue badge holders will be available by the recycling area in Victoria Park, which will be accessible by a stewarded entrance in Victoria Park Road. A number of traffic and parking restrictions will be in place for the duration of the service and parade, including Granville Road, Regent Road, University Road and De Montfort Street.

Anyone planning to attend the service is advised to arrive at the War Memorial by 10.45am. Access to Granville Road car park will be restricted after 10am, while the service and parade take place.

SYSTON: The parade will be held in the town centre from 10.30am. The parade will form in Melton Road car park and march for a service at the War Memorial at 10.45am. It will be followed by a service at St Peter and St Paul’s Church. The parade will consist of veterans and 1181 Syston Squadron Air Training Corps, as well as Scouts and Guides. OADBY: The parade musters at 2pm on and marches from the British Legion Club on Wigston Road to Rosemead Drive via London Road. It then about-turns and leading with a Pipeband, Queens Colour, Legion and Association Standards, wreath bearers, veterans and cadets with the Legion Riders bringing up the rear then marches up to St Peter’s Church for the actual service starting at 2.45 pm. The Deputy Lord Lieutenant will be in attendance. Location details: British Legion Club on Wigston Road, Oadby, LE2 5QA.

LOUGHBOROUGH: Serving and ex-service personnel, representing more than 25 uniformed organisations, will parade through Loughborough town centre to the Carillon, where a service will be conducted by the Reverend David Featonby and Deacon Jan Sutton. The procession starts at John Storer House at 10.30am, ending at Carillon Tower, Queen’s Park, for the service at 10.45am. The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Jennifer, Lady Gretton, will lay the first wreath. The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Diane Wise, will lay a wreath on behalf of the citizens of Charnwood. At the end of the service, the parade will march to Market Place, where the salute will be taken. A bugler will also sound the Last Post at Loughborough Central Station, on the Great Central Railway, at 10.45am. Location details: John Storer House, Loughborough, LE11 3HA.
ASHBY: The parade will form in South Street at 9am, marching through the town centre to Holy Trinity Church, Kilwardby Street, for the remembrance service, starting at 9.30am. The procession will resume from the church at 10.40am and make its way to the town’s Market Street War Memorial for 10.50am, for prayers and wreath laying. HINCKLEY: The remembrance parade and service is being held at the Memorial Gardens in Argents Mead at 10.55am. It will be led by the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Martin Cartwright. Anyone attending is asked to be at the gardens by 10.30am. Location details: Memorial Gardens, in Argents Mead, Hinckley, LE10 1BZ.
COALVILLE: The parade will leave Christ Church, London Road, at 10.25am for the service and wreath laying ceremony at Memorial Clock Tower in town centre. Location details: Christ Church, London Road, Coalville, LE67 3JA.
SOUTH WIGSTON: A remembrance service is to be held at The Church of St Thomas the Apostle, St Thomas’ Road, starting at 9.45am. Location details: The Church of St Thomas the Apostle, St Thomas’ Road, South Wigston, LE18 4TA.
MELTON: The parade will form in Thorpe End from 10am and proceed to St Mary’s Church for the service, followed by the Act of Remembrance in the town’s Memorial Gardens. The Royal British Legion service will be held at Sage Cross Methodist Church at 6pm. Location details: Thorpe End, Melton, LE13 1RB.
WHITWICK: The Whitwick branch of the Royal British Legion is holding its parade at 2.15pm, starting from Hermitage Leisure Centre, in Silver Street. It will head to St John Baptist Church, North Street, for a remembrance service. Location details: Hermitage Leisure Centre, in Silver Street, Whitwick, LE67 5EU.
OAKHAM: Remembrance Sunday will be marked in Oakham with a parade and church service. The parade will leave from Market Place at 2pm, travelling to All Saints Church for a 2.30pm service. Location details: Market Place, Oakham, LE15 6DT.
CROFT The parade will form at the Winston Avenue car park at 10.35am and march off at 10.45am. It will turn right into Arbor Road and then right onto Station Road and finish at the War Memorial. After the 11am service, the parade will march back down Station Road and complete a salute/eyes left at the saluting dais which will be positioned before the bridge. The parade will then continue back to the car park on Winston Avenue. Location details: War Memorial, Croft.
THURMASTON: The parade will assemble 10.30 am at the Scout & Guide HQ in Unicorn Street at 10.40am, march up Unicorn Street and proceed South to the War Memorial for Wreath Laying Two minutes silence together with a short service. At 11.15am the parade will proceed up Melton Road to the Parish Church of St Michael & All Angels for the Service of Remembrance. At 12.15 pm the parade will march down Melton Road to the Royal British Legion Club Car Park for dismissal at 12.30pm. Location details: Scout & Guide HQ in Unicorn Street, Thurmaston, LE4 8AW.
