Residents call for safety measures on village road
Residents are calling for traffic-calming after claiming speeding cars along their road are an "accident waiting to happen".
People living in Hamilton Lane, Scraptoft, are concerned there are not enough signs warning drivers of the 30mph speed limit.

Ian Wright, who is concerned about speeding cars on Hamilton Lane, Scraptoft
Resident Ian Wright, 54, has lived in his Hamilton Lane home for 13 years and said the problem had increased over time.
Last month, he wrote to Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council asking them to do something.
Because the road straddles both city and county council boundaries, Mr Wright said each authority had appeared unclear as to who should respond to his requests.
He said: "Drivers use this as a cut through, it's like a race track most days and it's getting worse.
"When we try to pull out of our drives in the morning, people are overtaking you and it's so dangerous.
"I pay my taxes to the city council, but they told me it wasn't their problem."
About two months ago, the county council erected a flashing speed warning sign at the bottom of Hamilton Lane for a four-day trial period.
Mr Wright said the sign was put in the wrong place for speeding motorists, and instead he would like to see more 30mph signs along the whole road.
He said the sole warning sign, in Hamilton Lane, is faded and obscured by trees.
Resident Gillian Burn, 74, said: "I think it's just an accident waiting to happen and we need more signs to slow them down."
Sheila Potter, 78, who also lives in Hamilton Lane, said: "It has got very busy lately, I have been here 20 years and it's got worse.
"It is dangerous for people at the bottom of the road who are crossing to get into the village."
A Leicestershire County Council spokesman said: "The mobile vehicle activated sign used on Hamilton Lane was part of a trial of different types of mobile sign at various places throughout the county.
"We worked with the parish council and the unit was deployed in a safe site that would have an impact on vehicles approaching a bend to the left.
"It is also about 200 metres from the city boundary, which is near to the junction with New Romney Crescent. The results of the county-wide trial are being considered, but we are hopeful they will be released before the end of November."
She said that due to previous concerns over speeding in Hamilton Lane, the area was on a list of 102 areas awaiting funding for traffic calming.
A city council spokesman said: "Only a small section of Hamilton Lane, between Scraptoft Brook and the northern side of the golf course, is the responsibility of Leicester City Council. The rest belongs the county council.
"We have been contacted by Mr Wright and he will be receiving a direct response."

“Playing Devil's Advocate Rich of Loughborough, they do have a right to travel down the road if they have paid their tax, insurance and have a valid driving licence. But, I agree with your comment. We need to respect others.”

“the problem is that drivers perceive that they have a right to go down roads as they see fit rather than realising that they are guests of the residents of that street and should treat them with respect.”

“people know that it becomes a 30mph zone once they leave the country road, there are houses and even a school nearby so the speeding is not a result of drivers being unaware of the speed limit. i dont really see what 30mph signs will do to reduce the risk. speed bumps havent exactly done wonders for my car but on roads like these it seems the only option...”
