Prince Edward was due to fly into the county by helicopter but because of freezing fog the decision was made to postpone the tour.

Professor Dominic Shellard, vice chancellor for the university, tweeted after the decision was made: “V sorry to say that Prince Edward has had to postpone his visit on Wednesday because of the weather. He will re-arrange in the near future.”

He added that more details about a rescheduled visit would be announced as soon as possible: “I'll be doing local media tomorrow to explain why Prince Edward has had to cancel, arrangements tomorrow and plans for his future visit.”
