Lady Gaga, Cher, Tina Turner, Shirley Bassey, Dolly Parton and Barbra Streisand – an eclectic line-up of world-renowned singers which would see pound signs dancing in the eyes of any promoter.

Add appearances by Camilla Parker-Bowles, Cleo Laine, Eartha Kitt, Carol Channing and Amy Winehouse and you might wonder how it were possible.

They're all scheduled to pop up at Curve at the end of this month when Leicester favourite and top-class female impersonator Ceri Dupree performs his show The Ladies I Love.

Ceri first became known to Leicestershire audiences when he starred in '60s pop musical Rock Hard at the Haymarket Theatre. He followed it up with his one-man show Brenda: A Star Is Torn, and then returned to play Lucy Fur in smash hit '70s rock musical Hot Stuff.

And the Welsh performer – brother of 42nd Street star Ria Jones – has returned time and again with his own shows and numerous revivals of Hot Stuff.

Last time he brought Blonde For Danger to Leicester, a show which, as the name suggests, featured all blonde ladies.

"This time it's about the ladies I love," he told The Week.

"My favourite lady to create is Barbara Cartland, she was so dotty and camp, and when I do her I really go off on another plane. There'll never be another like her, just like there'll never be another Shirley Bassey or Ethel Merman.

"That's what makes it so difficult to come up with new characters now, we don't make stars like that any more. The stars today just don't have that level of personality

"Catherine Zeta Jones is very like Joan Collins in that she's incredibly glamorous. I've thought about doing Victoria Beckham by having ridiculously outsized accessories and jewellery to make her seem really, really skinny, but once the visual comedy is there, there's not much else to work with because there's not really any personality. In fact, if any readers have any inspirational ideas for new characters I'd love to hear them!"

Two relatively recent additions to his repertoire were Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga. "Lady Gaga is just outrageous, and although I still send Amy Winehouse up, I did take her out of the show for several months because I didn't want to upset people.

"What I do is very tongue-in-cheek. I'm not mean about my ladies, it's all very affectionate because I do love them all."

Fans of Rock Hard and Ceri's former cabaret shows will be happy to know that one legendary Greek lady will be returning to Leicester with him.

"Nana Mouskouri is fabulous. I didn't do her for years and last year I revived her and it went down a storm. She's so funny and lovely that even youngsters who don't have a clue who she is respond really well to her."

The Ladies I Love is at Curve from January 31 to February 4. Details on 0116 242 3595 or:
