Police are inviting older people to an information event about staying safe.

The session will take place at the community centre, in Balderstone Close, Rowlatts Hill, Leicester, from 10am until noon tomorrow.

It will involve the neighbourhood police beat team, as well as the charity Age UK.

Advice will be available on the subject of distraction burglary, local support networks and entitlement to benefits.

Between November 1 last year and February 20 this year, officers recorded eight distraction burglary offences, compared to one in the same period in 2010/11.

Sergeant Dan Eveleigh, of the local beat team, said: "This is a useful opportunity for older people from the community to find out more about a variety of subjects."
